For being a comic artist (well, at least on a pastime basis) my list of comic’s I’ve read is very small. I don’t read much comics at all and I don’t read a lot of books either. This is a big weakness of mine, since we all know that to become good at something, you need to study it hard. You can’t become a writer without reading a lot – and that’s why I’m not a perfect writer. I don’t read a lof of comics and that’s why I still have a lot to learn about creating comics.
When my good friend Emelie gave me Bone by Jeff Smith my understanding for comics of the kind I want to make changed – a lot! I am very thankful for that! It’s one of the best gifts I have ever gotten. When someone mention a good comic and I say I haven’t read it and get a “You haven’t read the comic of COMICS!? And you are supposed to make comics?” I can at least say that I have read Bone. It’s a brilliant piece and I have learnt alot by reading it over again. Jeff Smith sure knows how to draw and write! And best of all – it’s opened up a world of comics that I still need to explore. There are so many comic artists out there that I need to study!
Anyway, here’s a week from the 365 project – where I drew some of the characters of Bone. 🙂 Enjoy!
These were originally drawn in
2010 June 7:th – 2010 June 13:th

Fone Boney, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone from Bone ( a comic by Jeff Smith )
Thorn (and Ted), Rose and Lucius from Bone ( a comic by Jeff Smith )
The Red Dragon from Bone ( a comic by Jeff Smith )
Bone is one of my favorite stories! Lucius looks especially good – and he’s probably my favorite character from that book. Are you reading Jeff Smith’s new book, “RASL”? It’s different in tone but I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
I haven’t read RASL yet! I should get on to it! Lucius is my favorite too – as well as Rose! 🙂
i think rose needs more of a chin that sticks out, other than that, everything looks really reallly good. fone bone doesnt look like him though
Hey, thanks for stopping by and commending, Cindy! 🙂 They sure were different to draw compared to what I am used to draw – so I guess they all got a touch of my own style as well! Glad you liked them, and thanks for the pointers.
